Manfred (aka Manny) is one of the main protagonists of the Ice Age franchise. He is a male bull woolly mammoth who is the husband (former boyfriend) of Ellie and the father of Peaches. He is voiced by Ray Romano. Manny is a short-tempered and furry mammoth. While his true name is Manfred, many other characters throughout the Ice Age movies simply call him "Manny." A custom begun by Sid, who aptly nick-named him "Manny the Moody Mammoth". During the scene involving the cave paintings, in the first Ice Age movie, we learn that Manny's first mate and son were hunted and killed by a clan of Cro-Magnons. It's apparent that this is the reason Manny dislikes socializing with other animals — he's afraid, because, if he ever allowed himself to care for someone again, the chance of him losing them would always be there. This has also led Manny to despise creatures that kill for reasons other than food or survival. Manny has a firm belief that an animal should only have a relationship with one other animal for as long as they're alive together. "If you find a mate in life, you should be loyal". Since his partner was killed, it's likely that he believes that he should never have another partner (i.e. stay loyal). This led to great inward conflict for him because of his feelings for Ellie in Ice Age 2, with his friends advising him to move on with his life. As the world shifts around him, so does Manny’s family. Peaches is no longer a baby, but a quirky teenager just as off-beat as her mother Ellie and opinionated as Manny. Manny’s tendency to be overprotective spurs a terrible argument between father and daughter - just before the world splits apart, casting him out to sea and separating him from his family and herd. Now he vows to do everything he can to get back to his family and make amends with his daughter. And despite every obstacle thrown at him in this colossal adventure, Manny is still our powerful hero from IA3, and quite up to the task.
