It is the third installment of the series, following Madagascar and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, and it is the first film in the series to be released in 3D. The film is directed by Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath and Conrad Vernon. The film's world premiere was at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival on May 18, 2012. Released on June 8, 2012, it is the best-reviewed Madagascar film, in a series that has steadily improved with each installment of the series, as the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes gives a 76% "Certified Fresh" approval rating.
